Fight Night @ Mangia Qui

Saturday evening I had dinner at Mangia Qui on North Street in Harrisburg.  I was one of 13 girls sitting at a long table.  I ordered the sauteed shrimp and pork tacos.  Both dishes were good.  The tacos had some great flavors working.  My only complaint was that the meat was very tough and difficult to chew.  So, now you're wondering about the title "fight night"...ah yes, there was a table of 4 older people sitting near us and this one lady gets up and points to me and yells "you're so loud" and I respond with "me, out of all these girls at my table you think I'M loud???"  and she points yet again and yells "you are obnoxious!" at which point i say "and you are a BITCH."  That shut her up quickly and she left while the table beside us applauded me.  So you old hag, if you're reading my food blog the blue hair specials are served at 4pm, not 9pm.

would love to return to this place another evening on a date night.  some of the tapas dishes looked delicious.

best pizza in York,PA

Shakey Jakes has the best pizza in York, PA (or at least in my opinion).  Jim and Nenas and Marcellos do not compare to a flavorful slice from Shakey Jakes.  the cheese to sauce ratio is perfect and all the people who work there are friendly.   love it!

Spicy Pad Thai

I had some spicy pad thai from Essan in downtown York, PA today.  They ask when you order what level of spice you want on a scale of 1-10 (ten being the hottest), I got a 7 and it made my lips burn but in that spicy good way where you find yourself wanting more.  Service was slow but I wasn't in a rush so it didn't matter.  It was a good lunch however the best pad thai I've had so far remains to be at Wild Ginger where there's more complex flavors and the waiters know me by name.  Hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving last week!

Home Sweet Home

Sometimes the best meals are served at home.  I hosted friends for dinner last night.  We started things off with drinks, cheese & crackers and shrimp paired with homemade cocktail sauce.  I served chicken that was stuffed with feta, spinach, roasted red peppers & ham then coated with seasoned panko crumbs and baked to perfection.  This was paired with a creamy mushroom risotto compliments of my husband and steamed green beans dusted with crazy janes seasoning (a staple side-dish in our house).  We enjoyed a candle lit meal with white wine and good conversations as a few slow Dave Matthews songs played in the background.  Mocha cappuccino cake a la mode was served for dessert (our guests took theirs to go).  I love setting the table, cooking and entertaining.  It was a great evening!

El somewhat disappointing

I ate at El Sol tonight in downtown Harrisburg, PA.  I had high hopes for this place based on comments from friends.  I'm used to Mexican restaurants serving chips and salsa before you order.... we had margaritas and studied menus for quite sometime until we ordered, waited longer and finally chips and salsa arrived.  With empty glasses we waited for the waiter to return.  Word to the wise...order the top shelf margaritas (house does not compare).  I had the special mahi mahi tacos and they were spicy and delicious.  Others at my table had shrimp and chicken diablo and it was NOT spicy.  Our server was unattentive.

No Flavor Flats

I tried Flats today in downtown York, PA.  I had the turkey avocado wrap. I was disappointed with the lack of flavor and found myself wishing I had ordered something on the menu where they grill the flatbread.  Most things on the menu ranged from $7 - $8 but by the time you add a soda and tax you're over $10 for lunch ...a little pricey for the lack of flavor.

Welcome!

I love food and find myself reviewing meals no matter where I travel. Even at my own home on a random week night there's always an opinion to share after dinner is finished.  I keep saying I should start a food blog so here I am finally starting one!  Even if no one out there reads this it will still be fun to voice my opinion on experiences at local restaurants as well as successful meals made at home.
